Le RMS Mauretania est lancé par la Cunard le 20 janvier 1906. A sa sortie en mer avec ses quatre cheminées, c'est un des plus grands et des plus rapides bateaux du monde. En 1907 Il gagne le célèbre ruban bleu qui récompense le navire le plus rapide entre l'Europe et l'Amérique du Nord, et conserve ce record pendant vingt-deux ans. Ce Trans-Atlantique sera retiré du service en 1934.
