Dans le cadre d’un projet du Comité spécial des Nations Unies contre l’apartheid, Roy Lichtenstein réalise en 1983 une affiche abstraite laissant une grande part à l’interprétation du spectateur.
Il divise l’espace en deux zones par un cadre de couleur jaune vif. La zone à l’extérieur du cadre, composée de lignes obliques, est une zone réduite, stricte et ordonnée, tandis qu’à l’intérieur, les taches et traits de couleurs suggèrent un sentiment de vie et de liberté dans une société multi-culturelle. Avec cette composition abstraite, Roy Lichtenstein nous met face à la réalité de l’apartheid.
