L' édition spéciale de la trilogie Star Wars était une édition anniversaire afin de célébrer les 20 ans de la sortie au cinéma de Star Wars : Episode IV A New Hope .
Les trois films ont été diffusés aux États-Unis de janvier à mars à un intervalle mensuel. "A New Hope" est sorti le 31 janvier 1997 , suivi de "The Empire Strikes Back" le 21 février 1997 et "Return of the Jedi" le 14 mars 1997.
La trilogie a été diffusée en France de mars à avril. "Un nouvel espoir" est sorti le 19 mars 1997 , suivi de "L'empire contre-attaque" le 9 avril 1997 et "Le retour du Jedi" le 23 avril 1997.
