Ma Mère l'Oie est probablement la plus ancienne histoire à avoir été transformée en pantomime. Elle remonte à une ancienne légende grecque d'une oie qui pondait des œufs d'or.
La version moderne de cette pantomime a été créée par l'écrivain J. Hickory Wood en 1902 pour Dan Leno, le comédien le plus célèbre de l'époque.
