Ludwig Wilding est né en 1927 à Grünstadt et vit à Hambourg. En 1955 il réalise ses premières structures superposées. En 1967, il est nommé professeur à l'Académie des Beaux-Arts de Hambourg. Depuis 1968, il réalise des monotypes.
