Pan American World Airways (Pan Am) - The System of the Flying Clippers
Symbolising the romanticism of early long-haul air travel, Pan Am's Clipper aircrafts were known for linking remote regions of the world with unprecedented speed and comfort. Their name is a nod to the sailing clippers of the 19th century. These aircraft played an important role as pioneers of international commercial air transport.
Clippers offered passengers sumptuous interiors, comfortable seats, dining rooms where uniformed stewards served gourmet meals, and even bedrooms. A rare level of luxury for the time.
This Pan Am poster features a charming hostess in uniform inviting you to fly to six continents in a Clipper, a Boeing B-377 Stratocruiser, which entered service on 1 April 1949. The aircraft could carry up to 100 passengers on the main deck and 14 on the lower deck.
