Joseph Beuys: I like America and America likes Me
One of the German avant-garde artist's most famous performances to date is I like America and America likes Me, performed at the René Block gallery in New York in 1974. The artist, wrapped in felt, left Dusseldorf on a stretcher and flew to New York. An ambulance was waiting for him in New York and escorted him to the gallery. For three days, the artist lived alongside a wild coyote, with whom he shared the same living conditions. He left the same way and never set one foot on American soil.
