Giacometti was one of the Swiss painters to emerge from Art Nouveau and Symbolism towards abstraction. With his research and work on colour, he is considered one of the precursors of Abstract Art and has left an indelible mark in the history of art.

We can follow the evolution of his style towards abstraction through his posters: a simplification of forms, the use of large areas of primary and secondary colours especially in this poster where he uses a reduced colour palette. The butterfly like a large yellow spot stands out against a white background. The image is reduced to the essential, the butterfly to its essence.
