His first solo exhibition at the Galerie Maeght took place in 1951 where he exhibited 30 drawings, 35 sculptures and 100 lithographs.
His lithographs are pure line drawings executed in black on paper. The rapid, nervous, repeated lines do not encircle or fix the forms but seem to make beings and things emerge from the light that bathes them and from the space they develop, as in his studio where we can see his sculpted or painted works, finished or in progress. Here we can see his busts, the cat in the centre, or even the man walking on the right.
"When I'm drawing them, one sees them in an entirely different way, one sees their mood rather than their form," he said.
