Armin Hofmann was one of the main protagonists of the international typographic style that emerged in Switzerland in the 1950s.
In his posters, Hofmann uses limited colours and shapes. He saw typography as an integral part of a whole graphic expression, not simply as a means of conveying literal information.
Poster by Armin Hofmann advertising an exhibition by Henry Moore and Oskar Schlemmer at the Kunsthalle Basel in 1955.
Moore and Schlemmer were interested in the physical shape of the human body and its potential for artistic expression, which they explored in their work.
To represent these two artists, the poster by Armin Hofmann projects a biomorphic form in black and white which, although abstract, perfectly reflects the work of these two artists.
