Founded in 1858, the ‘Quodlibet Verein’ is a cultural association linked to the Basel Carnival whose mission is to organise and present the Quodlibet satirical show during the Basler Fasnacht. This association brings together passionate members who write a new satirical show each year inspired by current political and social events. These members also participate in the staging, rehearsals and preparation of costumes.
Unlike the street parades of Carnival, the Quodlibet (a Latin word meaning ‘whatever pleases’) is performed several times in theatres or restaurants. Performed in the Basel dialect, this show combines theatre, music and humour. The artists perform comic and satirical scenes, sometimes in a sharp tone, but always in a festive spirit.
Our work consists in safekeeping the artistic heritage of advertising that we consider as a sociological trace of the twentieth century civilization.
