Until the 1960s, the British shipping company Cunard was the most renowned in the world, especially for its two legendary ocean liners, the Queen Mary and the Queen Elizabeth.
It took only five days to make the crossing between New York and Cherbourg. The two ships crossed paths, with the Queen Mary or Queen Elizabeth leaving New York every Wednesday to arrive in England the following Monday.
