In 1983, as part of a project for the United Nations Special Committee against Apartheid, Roy Lichtenstein produced an abstract poster that left much to the viewer's interpretation. He divided the space into two zones by means of a bright yellow frame. The area outside the frame, composed of oblique lines, is a small, strict and ordered zone, while inside, the patches and strokes of colour suggest a sense of life and freedom in a multi-cultural society. With this abstract composition, Roy Lichtenstein confronts us with the reality of apartheid.
