The poster for the exhibition at the Musée Cantini, printed in lithography by Mourlot in 1959 (Ref Czwiklitzer # 158), is based on ‘Nature morte avec crâne de boeuf’ (Still life with ox skull), a work produced in Paris during the Second World War (April 1942). This darkly coloured painting, with its blacked-out windows, reflects the German occupation of Paris which plunged the City of Light into darkness. It's a somber, claustrophobic composition that expresses the oppression of the times.
