Saint Georges and the dragon by Robert Combas, 1991
Considered one of the most important French artists of the late 20th - early 21st century, Robert Combas is the initiator, with Hervé di Rosa, of the ‘Figuration libre’ movement. His works, whether in painting, sculpture or illustration, are inspired by scenes from everyday life, comic strips, current affairs, music and also religious tradition and the Saints.
In 1991, he exhibited a series of works on the Bible and the Saints in the gallery of his art dealer Yvon Lambert, with whom he had worked since 1982.
