Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901), the most innovative poster artist of La Belle Epoque

His posters show the society of Paris during the Belle Epoque, especially its nightlife. Toulouse-Lautrec invites us to become a spectator-voyeur of the scene depicted, as here in "Reine de Joie".

He invented new techniques in lithography (crachis, a splatter effect), simplified the lines and the drawing, leaving the background plain, as in his representations of "Aristide Bruant".
