In this Art Deco poster for Cie Générale Transatlantique, Paul Colin draws on the aesthetics of the Streamline Moderne movement: long horizontal lines and smooth volumes to create a refined, sober aesthetic. The close-up of the ocean liner evokes feelings of grandeur, majesty, stability and safety. A symbol of France in the 1930s, the Normandie was considered the most beautiful and opulent ocean liner of its time. It completed the crossing from Le Havre to New York in just four days.
