Poster for the music festival organised by La Dolce Vita, Lausanne's famous music club, as part of the celebrations to mark the 700th anniversary of the Swiss Confederation. The concerts took place from 14 to 20 June 1991 at the Dolce Vita and from 21 to 23 June under Mario Botta's tent in Vidy.
In 1985, Keith Haring drew a design for the label of a bottle of Dolce Vita wine, depicting two figures who seemed to be both fighting and dancing with each other. On this label, Dolce Vita is written in yellow handwriting on a black background. This typography was used again for the club's main sign and became the emblematic Dolce Vita logo.
A year after the artist's death, the motif and logo were used again on the poster for the Dolce Vita Festival to celebrate the 700th anniversary of the Swiss Confederation, but this time in white and red, the colours of the Swiss flag, in harmony with the official logo of the 700th anniversary celebrations, reproduced in the top right-hand corner of the poster.
La Dolce Vita was a legendary cultural venue for an entire generation, in existence between 1985 and 1999. Sonic Youth, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Noir Désir, Manu Chao, Stephan Eicher and many others performed there. Keith Haring (1958-1990) frequented the Dolce Vita in the 1980s and spent his evenings adorning the club's walls with his graffiti.
