Jean PICART LE DOUX

1935

104 x 77 cm
40 x 30 inch

Jean Picart le Doux was born in Paris in 1902. He started working in binding and publishing, then took on advertising and graphic design in the 1930's. His first tapestry designs date back from 1943 after he won the poster grand prix at the "Salon de l'Imagerie".

In 1950 he met Jean Colin et Jacques Nathan and two Swiss graphic designers: Fritz Bühler et Donald Brun, during their exhibition in Basel. Together, they set up the idea of an International Graphic Alliance (AGI).

He is mainly remembered for his work on ornaments and tapestry. Yet this 1935 Art Deco poster amongst his early works bears similarities to the late posters of maestro A.M. Cassandre.
