Original vintage poster Lausanne-Ouchy, Plage

Johannes Emil MÜLLER (JEM (Mueller, Muller))

1927

100 x 65 cm
39 x 25 inch

‘Lausanne has now its own beach, and a beach whose amenities, location and, above all, eye-catching view have nothing to envy to Trouville, Deauville or other cheap resorts’, wrote the Feuille d'Avis de Lausanne on 24 June 1927.
That summer, Lausanne opened a unisex beach. It was a first! Until then, men and women had been separated in the ‘baths’. An arc-shaped beach was created, requiring three thousand cubic metres of sand. In the centre, imported from the United States, Switzerland's first water-toboggan, 11 m high and 25 m long, allowed people to ‘surf’ on the lake with a wooden board, as shown by J.E. Müller on this magnificent Art Deco poster created for the opening of this legendary beach.
