Giacometti was one of the Swiss painters to emerge from Art Nouveau and Symbolism towards abstraction. With his research and work on colour, he is considered one of the precursors of Abstract Art and has left an indelible mark in the history of art.

We can follow the evolution of his style towards abstraction through his posters: a simplification of forms, the use of large areas of primary and secondary colours. In this poster, the butterfly is composed of large brush strokes of bright, warm colours that contrast with each other and at the same time intermingle. The form is no more, only the colours remain.
