Cachou Lajaunie, 1920
Poster created in 1920 by Cappiello for the brand of sweets in the shape of little black squares. A ginger-haired woman wearing a dress made up of autumn-coloured foliage is holding a cigarette in one hand and a box of cachous in the other. The yellow tones of the foliage and typography are reminiscent of the yellow of the famous box of sweets. The viewer immediately associates this colour with Cachou Lajaunie, a brand born in Toulouse in 1880 in Léon Lajaunie's pharmacy. The liquorice and mint sweets are presented in small round boxes the size of pocket watches.
Cappiello's poster was reproduced in the magazine L'Illustration in 1922 with the following headline: ‘Excellent digestive, a must for smokers; it perfumes and refreshes the mouth.’
