Muller-Brockmann created this poster for the japanese designer Akari's lamps exhibition at the Art and Craft museum of Zürich. This poster won the 1975 Swiss Poster Award. Muller-Brockmann knew pretty well the Japanese artists community as he married the Japanese artist Shizuko Yoshikawa. Muller-Brockmann is considered as a pioneer of Swiss Graphik Design. Born in 1914 in Rapperswill (Switzerland) he worked as a freelance designer and illustrator in Zurich. During the fifties he moved from illustration to objective-constructive design. In 1957 he was appointed graphic design teacher at the Zürich School of Arts and Krafts and he founded the magazine "New Graphic Design" with the Swiss designers Richard Lohse and Carlo Vivarelli.
