Diablerets, a healthy aperitif, circa 1928

One of the best posters for the Diablerets aperitif made with Alpine herbs, created in 1876.
In 1900, Henri Leyvraz opened a factory in Aigle to manufacture the aperitif and asked his friend, the painter and illustrator Frédéric Rouge, to design the advertising for the aperitif.
The posters were a great success, but they also shocked people. In his book ‘Portrait des Vaudois’, Jacques Chessex wrote: ‘In the old days, there used to be big posters in station halls showing a flying devil carrying a bottle of Bitter Diablerets over a gorge. It was magnificent and unforgettable.

A lithographed masterpiece in Weltformat/Swiss size.
