Martin WOODTLI

(1971)

"Graphic design is a mirror of contemporary culture." M.Woodtli
Martin Woodtli is a Swiss graphic designer born in 1971 who make isometric creations that blur the lines between illustration, architecture and design.
After a degree in visual communication from the University of applied sciences and arts in Zürich, he moved to New York and worked in the studio of David Carson and Stefan Sagmeister. Back in Zürich, he opened his own studio in 1999 and became the year after the youngest member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI). Since 2001, he has taught at the Lucerne School of Art and Design and gave lectures around the world. In 2002, he published the book Woodtli, Die Gestalten, that has been selected as one of the most beautiful Swiss books of that year.
He produces fascinating complex posters with a huge amount of details, using mixed digital techniques. He designs the title as part of the background objects by shifting elements of the pattern to the side to give the impression of a letter being placed. Each time you look at one of his poster, you find a new pattern and a new sequence of colour.
