"Messieurs... C'est l'heure!" (Gentlemen... It's time!)

Legendary poster for the ban on absinthe in Switzerland by Gantner, originally published in the Swiss satirical newspaper the "Guguss".

On October the 7th 1910, the Green Fairy was murdered by the anti-alcohol leagues of the Blue Cross with a dagger in her side. A member of the Blue Cross, dressed as a priest and wearing a enamelled blue cross around his neck, indicates the time. It is midnight and absinthe is then banned throughout Switzerland. Wreaths with the names of the cantons of Neuchâtel and Geneva (which voted against the ban), and of individual freedom, lie at the foot of the dead fairy. In the background, Helvetia weeps.
