In 1885, the Italian state bought up all the private railway lines and created two large networks: the Rete Mediterranea R.M. and the Rete Adriatica R.A.. These two lines existed until 1905.
The Treves brothers' publishing house in Milan, founded in 1861 and with its own printing workshop, have created the posters for the R.M.
