Under the initiative of Henri Larsen, taxidermist at the Museum of Natural History, the animal park opened its doors in 1935. It is located between the avenue d'Aïre and the Rhône, in front of the pont Butin. The owner of a fine stone business, Mr. Ahamed, offered two tigers to the zoo. An elephant will be named "Saphir" like the name of his shop. The manufacturer of "Pelikan" inks donates two bird specimens to illustrate his brand. The zoo closed on 12 December 1940 due to lack of financial support.
