Saturday the 2nd of March 1929.

Jean-Jacques MENNET (1889-1969) is a Swiss painter, decorator, illustrator and graphic designer. He created about fifty posters, most of them unknown to us today. Only fifteen or so, extremely rare, have survived and are displayed in museums and in our collection.
From 1928 to 1931, inspired by Paul Colin and cubism, J.J. Mennet designed, among others, the series of posters for the “Bals de l’Arc en Ciel” at the Lausanne Palace. On this 1929 poster, the cubist decomposition of the black musician and his instruments is a perfect illustration of the rhythm of the jazz music, which was becoming very popular in Europe at that time.
