One of the most famous posters by Jules Chéret (the father of the artistic poster) for "Saxoleine" the oil company. It is the small version reserved for the subscribers of the magazine "le Courrier Français", printed in lithography and dated 26 January 1896. A rare collector's item in very good condition.

His posters, cheerful and colourful, show elegant, seductive and liberated women. The status of women is changing, they are becoming more independent and self-confident. Chéret did not hesitate to use the image of this modern woman to sell a product, a revolutionary idea at the time.

The Danish dancer, actress and singer Charlotte Wiehe (1865-1947) became Chéret's muse and appeared on his "Saxoléine", "Job" and "Quinquina Dubonnet" posters. The newspapers of the time gave her the nickname "La Chérette". By extension, the women represented on Chéret's posters became "Les Chérettes".
