Erich BRECHBÜHL

(1977)

Born in 1977 in Switzerland, Erich Brechbühl is a freelance graphic designer. In 1990, at the age of 13, he founded "Mix Pictures", an organisation for short film productions and cultural events. After learning typography near Lucerne, he began an apprenticeship in graphic design at the studio of Niklaus Troxler in Willisau (1998-2002). He then founded in Lucerne his own graphic design studio, "Mixer". Since 2007, Erich Brechbühl is a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI). He was co-founder in 2009 of the poster festival "Weltformat" in Lucerne. Mainly focused on posters and corporate design, Erich Brechbühl's work has won numerous awards, including in 2018 the Gold Price at the Swiss Poster Award 2017 for his poster "Welcome to Lucerne". His highly original style is based on optical effects and motion graphics, which treat letters and typography as living, mobile elements within the posters, creating elements of surprise. He includes motion graphics to create moving posters of his posters. Erich Brechbühl has created his first 360° poster in 2016. His work has been exhibited in Russia, Germany, New York, China, Egypt, Dubai. He also gives lectures across the world (Japan, Russia, Taiwan). In 2020, he will be a member of the jury of the Hong Kong International Poster Triennial.
