Richard AVEDON (photographer)

Richard Avedon is an American fashion and portrait photographer, whose elegant, innovative fashion work soon brought him international renown, as did his sharply focused, bluntly realistic portrait photographs of presidents, writers, and celebrities. Born in New York City in 1923, Avedon changed his career in fashion photography in 1945 with Harper's Bazaar, switching to Vogue, Life, Graphis and Look magazines.

The Beatles were photographed by Richard Avedon. The shoot took place at a photographic studio in a penthouse in Thompson House, 200 Gray’s Inn Road, London.
The American photographer took a number of shots of the group, four of which were later adorned with psychedelic effects. They were first published in the 9 January 1968 edition of the US magazine Look, and were then sold as posters.
